Whole wheat garlic knots is planned for dinner tonight along with a bowl of healthy and delicious roasted tomato soup with olive oil. For this week’s Bake along challenge #48 we were given garlic knots. I made Whole wheat garlic knots all from scartch.

As well as the perfect side for pasta, these tasty buns also make perfect party food. Serve warm with pizza or marinara sauce for a dip. Delicious!

Here’s step by step recipe to make garlic knots

Ingredients

For pizza dough

  • Whole wheat flour – 2 cups
  • Dry yeast – 2tsp
  • Sugar – 1 tsp
  • Olive oil – 1 tbsp
  • Salt – ½ tsp
  • Luke Warm water – ½ cup

For garlic butter

  • Unsalted butter – 3 tbsp
  • Garlic cloves – 5 to 6 (peeled and grated)
  • Dried oregano – 1tbsp
  • Kosher salt – To sprinkle

Method of preparation:-

1. Take luke warm water in a bowl, add sugar and yeast into the milk and mix well. Leave it for 10 minutes until the mixture froths up. If it does not froth, discard the mixture and start again.

2. In another bowl, add flour and salt, mix. Make a well at the center, yeast mix and knead into a smooth dough.

3. Transfer the dough to a clean surface, dust little flour and knead for 10-12 mins. Kneading has to been done by stretching the dough and then folding it back, refer to the photo. Keep kneading until the dough is smooth and shiny. Whole wheat garlic knots1 Whole wheat garlic knots2

4. Make a ball , and transfer to the same bowl in which you started, grease the bowl and the dough with olive oil and cover it with damp cloth and leave  it to prove for 1 hours or until the size of the dough has doubled the volume.

5.After the dough has risen to double the volume, Punch the dough and knead it roughly once again. Divide the dough into 4 portions.  Take one small portion and roll it into a thin log and then twist it and make a knot of it as shown.  Whole wheat garlic knots5

 

 

 

 

6. Line the baking tray with butter paper. Place the knots on a baking tray. Repeat the same for rest of the dough. Now cover them wit damp cloth and let them rest for another 45 mins until they rise a little more. Mean while we will make the garlic butter.

7. Grate garlic. Heat butter in a pan and add the grated garlic. Add dried oregano and mix well. Do not burn the butter. Just melt them. Whole wheat garlic knots6

 

 

 

 

8. After the knots have risen a bit, brush the  knots with the garlic mixture and sprinkle with kosher salt. Now bake it in pre heated oven for 10-12 mins or until golden brown.

9. Remove from oven and immediately brush some butter (or olive oil) Sere warm as a snack or as side for pasta or pizza. Delicious soft, healthy and yummy knots are a must try. So what are you waiting for. Try it and enjoy it.
