So glorious. So good. So refreshing. It’s watermelon granita for you guys!
It’s official monsoon season starting in a few days in my part of the world, we are having skies that are ember grey and laced with dark emotions. The evening drizzles and showers are definitely cooling us off! Is summer over already? Doesn’t feel so, at least in my home.
We are still feasting on ice creams and cool refreshing drinks as much as we can before the real monsoon kicks in and I would be playing the strict mommy role trying to keep kids off from ice creams, water games, late evening outdoor games! Yes, I very much do that! Even when kids go to wash their hands off I will be behind them checking if they are keeping their hands in water for way too long! Don’t give me that look, come on. I do this for their good. My kids are prone to cold and cough and even the tiniest thing can trigger it. And once they do catch a cold and cough, it leads to congestion and 10 to 20 days of all-night-cough, vomiting. Don’t even get me started on how bad it gets! Ufff
But those days a little more ahead and I don’t want to even think about it now. Will handle it as it comes. For now it’s still a few more days of feasting, feasting on ice creams, drinking as much cold drinks we would love to and enjoying life!
One of the all time hit among the entire family is this watermelon granita. I do this every year, but was surprised to find out that I didn’t have it on my blog!
Granita is a no brainer recipe. You really don’t need a recipe at all. All you have to do it blend fruits and extract the juice, add lime juice and sugar syrup quantity that suits your palate, freeze! Simple, healthy and yummy!
1 full watermelon
Juice of 1 lime
½ cup sugar and ½ cup water
- Deseed the watermelon and cut into small cubes.
- Dissolve sugar and water on stove. Bring the syrup to boil and let is continue to boil until it reaches 1 string consistency. Remove from stove and let it cool down to room temperature.
- Blend water melons, lime juice and sugar syrup without adding water. Filter and pour into air tight containers. Cover and freeze.
- Just before serving scrape the top with fork. Place the shavings in serving bowl and serve immediately.
